envelopes available on the market. Not all envelopes are used exclusively for mailing, but for purposes such as pay packets or sending gift cards, etc. 
U.S. and Canadian postal regulations are not the same the rest of the world. Envelopes are still deliverable worldwide, but in the U.S. the sorting machines will not process international envelope sizes.

Size "A" envelopes are square shaped, and have a square flap. They are sometimes used to send announcements, wedding invitations, photographs and greeting cards. Size A envelopes come in sizes from 4 3/8 inches by 5 3/4 inches (A2 type) to the largest, (A10 type) at 6 inches by 9.5 inches.
 
Business and commercial size envelopes are normally rectangular and are used for business correspondence, and other kinds of official papers. The standard business envelope is known as the number 10 size envelope. It is 4 1/8 inches high and 9 1/2 inches wide. This envelope often has a square flap and a standard gum seal, sometimes featuring a see-through window address display.
 
Booklet type envelopes are often used by companies to send direct mail, as they have side seams making them easier to process automatically using machines. Items like catalogs, brochures and manuals are often sent with this type of envelope. Sizes include the smallest which is 4 3/4 inches by 6 1/2 inches and the largest, which is 10 inches by 13 inches.
 
Catalog envelopes are normally manufactured of strong material as they are can be used to send catalogs, large pamphlets, booklets, scripts, and magazines, for example. They are often designed to be fastened with a clasp A common catalog size is the 6-inch by 9-inch envelope. The 12-inch by 15 1/2-inch is the largest of this envelope category.
 
Baronial envelopes are like announcement envelopes but are square and have pointed flaps. They are mostly used to send official business papers, but can additionally be used to send invitations and cards. They come in sizes from 3 5/8 inches by 4 5/8 inches. The largest size is 5 inches by 6 inches.
